Seriously, someone help me here. How do you teach a one year old discipline? We have our trash can sitting out against the wall and it's just the right height for Rocklin to open and stick his little hands in and see what treasures he can pull out. When he started doing it I'd say no, no with a firm voice and he'd look me at me like oh, I must be doing something I shouldn't and he'd stop. Now, however, it's become a game for him. When I tell him no, no...he LAUGHS at me and keep digging. Am I already losing the discipline battle? Does he just not understand what NO means yet? Check out the video...see, I wasn't kidding! (and notice the HA-HA, Mom tone in his laugh!!!):

Okay, that's stinkin' cute. But seriously remove him from the situation and put him in time out for one minute for every year old he is. So for one minute. He'll figure out it just gets him staring at a wall and then it's not so fun anymore!
P.S. I love your finger shake!!!
Sorry to be here laughing....That is so funny!!! I guess I can laugh now cuz I''m so past that stage and of course grammy thinks everything Rocklin does is cute!!!
Oh girl, I feel for you! I agree with Sarah...it's not too early to start timeout.
My kid runs to the corner if he's naughty (simulating a timeout) and then he giggles. I'd probably opt for the easy way out and just move the trash can somewhere out of reach.
He's just curious, and maybe you've tried this...but distract him with something else? Maybe get a different bin and put things in it that he can play with (plastic bottles with rice, noodles, etc. in them that make noise, crinkly paper, etc.?) I've also found that giving Frankie a similar, mom-endored experience works pretty well.
Haha, that is really funny. Janalee does the same thing and we finally moved the trash can up on a chair in the corner, so now she likes to lay under the chair that the trash can is on. Aren't kids so funny!
Hey! I actually don't think we have officially met, but I am married to Randy Patterson... hopefully that rings a bell, we used to hang out with Adam when we all actually lived near him :) I found your blog-- so cute by the way-- and loved your 25 list, I bet we would have fun hanging out with the kiddos!
Anyhow, I had that same trashcan problem with little Randy a while back (right when he started walking) and I came to the conclusion that he really thought it was only a game. Me being a germaphobe, I came up with this wacky idea that worked for the trash-- I bought one of those packs of ghetto-fabulous home or window alarms (kinda like this: http://picasaweb.google.com/reneezhang76/cSbTI#5238268762200970146 ...super cheap, I found a set of 4 at Ross for like $5) and I attached the parts to the lid and trashcan. Then I set it to alarm and when he opened it, the noise freaked him out and he stopped touching it :) Now a few months later, he just knows to go throw something away for me (diaper, etc.) and doesn't have a problem with really getting into the trash otherwise... Maybe it would work?
you dump a cup of milk on his head.
LOL to Justin's comment!!!
