Baby's Got a New Pair of Shoes

Ok, I am the first to admit that sometimes (or more than sometimes) it is painfully obvious that I am a first time mother. I get excited about the silliest little things, just like every new mother should. I'm warning you now that this is going to be one of those posts.

The other day I found the cutest shoes for Rocklin, but I didn't buy them. It was one of those things where when you get home and you keep thinking, dang, should have bought them! So today Rock and I went back to the store and we bought him his first pair of "real" shoes! They are so cute that I had to take a couple of pictures and share with anyone else who feels me on the whole "getting excited about the little things because he's my first" moments. Oh, and eating his hands is his new favorite thing to do, as you can see in the picture. You'd think I dipped his fingers in chocolate the way he loves to eat them!

You know you've been broken into motherhood when...

...you change your son's diaper before running errands then get in the car and on your way just to find out you have his poop under your fingernail. Thank heavens for baby wipes.

Downsizing!

First of all, before I begin this post, let me just say thank you to Ezra & Crystal for recommending Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover book. I just finished reading it and now I'm going to have Adam read it...it's defiantly an excellent book that I would recommend to anyone regardless of their financial situation! For me it was a wake up call to make some major changes so that when Rocklin is a little older we'll be free to take him to Disney World, buy a new house, etc. without always worrying about the money.

With that being said, Adam and I are going to be moving in a couple of weeks (the day I get back from GA actually) from our beautiful home to a 2-bedroom apartment. Good bye 2500 sq. ft., hello 977 sq. ft.!!! This is defiantly going to be an adjustment for us, but we are both excited about the changes we are making. We'll be moving closer to Adam's work, so that will be nice to save on gas too. Plus, the complex has 2 swimming pools and you know in this Arizona heat we are REALLY looking forward to that! Rocklin even has the cutest little baby Gap swimsuit that his Aunt Megan and Uncle Aaron bought him - can't wait to try it out!

I think what I'll miss the most is our amazing kitchen (especially the island - our new kitchen is about as big as JUST the island!):

On a positive note, at least our new place will look decorated (unlike our place now) since it's so much smaller. And one of the biggest benefits is way less to clean!! Yeah!! I'll be emailing out our new address once we have moved. Wish us luck!

Pay It Forward Game!!

I'm participating in a Pay It Forward Exchange that I copied from my friend Aimme's blog.
Want to play?

I will send a small handmade gift to the first three people who leave a comment on my blog. You will receive your gift within a month from leaving your comment, hopefully! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog (or to 3 people in your life, if you're not a blogger). I hope you comment so you can enjoy the fun too!! To join, just cut and paste this on your blog and comment away. Keep in mind that if you want to get something from me, you have to give.

This will be fun to see see what I get from Aimee and and then to see who I get to send some cute stuff to!

Update

Just a quick update from the comments on the post below...

1. Someone asked me if I was selling the burp cloths. I'd be happy to sell them 2 for $10 (plus a few bucks for shipping). If anyone is interested please email me with your preference of ribbon color and style (polka dots, stripes, etc.) at kbirkmeyer @ gmail. com (obviously without the spaces in the email address...I just didn't want to get spam in my email).

2. We will be coming to Georgia for my little brother's wedding here shortly. I'll be there from April 30 - May 10. I'd love to get together with anyone out there...email me at the email address above if you are available for lunch or just for me and Rocklin to stop in and say hello!

Crafty Momma

I've had the craft bug lately, and good timing too because I've had so many baby showers to attend and/or friends that I know having babies recently and in the near future. I've started making these cute burp cloths - the kind you see in baby boutiques for $15 - $20 a set. They are quick and easy and an instant cute baby gift! Here are some I've done recently (and Sarah, sorry to ruin the surprise, but the pink ones in the picture I made for baby Lauryn, so I'll be bringing those to GA with me!).

Rocklin Jay

Here are just some recent pictures of Rocklin. I bought him a Bumbo chair yesterday (thank you Craigslist) and tried him out in it today.

Check this little man out - just sitting back, relaxing - the only thing he needs to complete his "I'm the man" look in this picture is the remote control! He's going to have to fight his daddy for that one though.

OK, no more Bumbo...
That double chin...the hat says it all
Ready for Church! (And no, those aren't parachute pants although they look like it in this pic)
I just took this one - he's sleeping so I thought I'd update the blog. I think he's going for the gangsta look with those pant legs one up and one down.

Celebration!

This weekend we had a lot of fun celebrating Linda's (Adam's Mom) 6oth birthday! Adam's entire family was there and it was great to see everyone. We went out to dinner and a comedy club on Friday night and then Saturday celebrated with a luau picnic. It was so much fun!

We made a special memory book for Linda with letters from family and friends along with pictures. Friends going back to Linda's BYU days submitted letters with memories and stories, and they were so fun to read! We were able to get all kinds of pictures - every part of Linda's life from childhood to current. I think Linda was really surprised and had a great time!

Linda looking looking at her memory book (sorry Linda, I didn't get a single picture with you looking directly at the camera!)

Karrie (Adam's sister) preparing some yummy food!Steve and Gracie staying warm (Adam's sister Kelly's husband and daughter)
Rocklin in his luau attire
Mommy and Rocklin just chillin
Kacie (Adam's sister), Tyler (Cousin) and Kameron (nephew) hanging out
Ron enjoying the party (and Ron's 21st birthday was Sunday - Happy Birthday Ron!!)
Katie (Adam's sister) and Luke
We gave Rocklin a mohawk, not sure you can see it so well in this picture, but he sure did look cute!! He turned 3 months on Saturday!
Rock was loving being outside in the good weather. All smiles!
Gracie having fun with the big red ball
Daddy and Rock
Mommy and Rock
I can't wait to get together with everyone again! But I think our next family get together will be with my family in a couple of weeks for my brother Aaron's wedding. We are so excited!!

Happy B-Day to Me!

Yesterday was my 29th birthday. I know, you're thinking, "She's 29? Dang, she looks good for being that old!!" ;) Here are some pictures from last night - Adam planned a fun night with dinner at a local Mexican restaurant and a bunch of friends to help celebrate. Afterwards we headed back to our house for some cake. We had a lot of fun! Thanks to everyone who came and helped make the beginning of my last year as a twenty-something a fun one!!
I had to include this picture because lately Rocklin has discovered he has a tongue and sticks it out whenever he gets the chance!

Meanwhile, Adam has just discovered his lips and likes to make funny faces with them whenever he gets the chance:

Katie & Tyler (Adam's sister and her husband) were there to help celebrate:

Me and my main squeeze:

Here's Rocklin enjoying the after-party at our house:

And here he is all partied out:

Thanks again babe for a wonderful night!

New Do!

So I got my hair cut last night and I love it! Feels so fresh and so much lighter. Plus, I actually went through with the bangs! I just closed my eyes and told her to cut! I think it will be a fun new do. In the pictures you can see that the girl that did my hair wanted to show me how to make it "beachy-wavy" but I will more than likely wear it straight.

Tag, I'm It!

I've never done one of these "tag" posts, but since I'm bored waiting for Adam to come home from work and Rocklin is napping and dinner is already made, I thought I'd entertain myself --

A - Attached or single: Attached - married for 2 years this June
B - Best friend(s): Adam (goes without saying) and Hillary in TX and Jen in NC
C - Cake or pie: Cake - I love red velvet, but of course you can't go wrong with chocolate!
D - Day of choice: Saturday because Adam is home with me and Rocklin
E - Essential item: Before Rocklin I would have said either a big cute handbag or a cute pair of shoes, but post-Rocklin I'd have to say my diaper bag
F - Favorite color: Pink!
G - Gummy bears or worms: Neither...not a big fan of candy unless it's chocolate candy
H - Hometown: Marietta, GA (but was born in Tracy, CA)
I - Indulgence(s): hmmm, probably Reese's peanut butter cups!
J - January or July: July - I love July 4th!
K - Kids: One beautiful son, Rocklin, who will already be 3 months old this month
L - Life is incomplete without: Family
M - Marriage date: June 10, 2006 (last year Adam and I both forgot our one year anniversary! Let's hope we both do better this year at remembering it!!)
N - Number of siblings: 5 brothers (and one brother-in-law, and 6 sister-in-laws with one on the way come May 2nd, and 3 more sister-in-laws in the future....)
O - Oranges or apples: Oranges
P - Phobias or fears: Fire - I'm scared to death of skin being burned. I think I'd rather die then suffer 3rd degree burns on my body.
Q - Quotes: "This too shall pass." (I remind myself of that whenever I feel down).
R - Reason to smile: playing with Rocklin always makes me smile and so does kissing Adam :)
S - Season of choice: Spring
T - Tag three friends: Sarah, Megan Ensign (Megan, are you still blogging??) and anyone else who is reading this!
U - Unknown fact about me: I was peed on by a tiger at the zoo at my own birthday party when I was a child!! (to this day I refuse to look at the tiger exhibit at the zoo)
V - Very favorite store: Target - so unoriginal, but who doesn't love Target? Speaking of, have you been there lately? They've got some cute clothes right now!
W - Worst habit: Finishing people's sentence. For some reason I always jump ahead of someone when I think I know what they are going to say -- I hate it when I do that but I seem to not be able to help it.
X - X-ray or ultrasound: Ultrasound -- especially when it's to see your own baby!
Y - Your favorite food: a fillet mignon (sp?) from Ruth's Chris Steakhouse (had one on my honeymoon in Cabo and by far it was the best steak I've ever had!) and I'm a huge fan of the Southwestern Cobb Salad at Chili's
Z - Zodiac sign: Aries (explains the occasional fiestyness)

Blog Book

I found this cool website where you can order a book of your blog. Somehow they "slurp" up your blog into book format and you can order one...how cool is that?
